The exact preparation strategy our students use to move from band 5.5 to 7.0 in two months. No coaching centre required.
Is 8 Weeks Enough?
For most students who are already at band 5.5 or above and can dedicate 3 hours per day, 8 weeks is sufficient to reach band 7.0. The key is targeted practice, not generic study.
Weeks 1 and 2: Diagnostic
Take a full practice test under timed conditions. Identify your weakest section. Most Indian students struggle most with Listening Section 3 and 4 and the Academic Writing Task 1.
Weeks 3 and 4: Reading and Listening
Do one full section of reading daily. Focus on True, False, Not Given questions, which are the most commonly missed. For listening, switch your daily media consumption to British accents: BBC Radio 4, podcasts, TED talks.
Weeks 5 and 6: Writing
Practise Task 1 (graphs, charts, diagrams) and Task 2 (essays) daily. Get your essays checked. The examiner is looking for coherence and lexical resource, not just grammar.
Week 7: Speaking
Record yourself answering cue card questions. The biggest mistake Indian students make in speaking is memorised answers. Speak naturally, even if imperfectly.
Week 8: Mock Tests
Three full timed mock tests in the final week. Simulate exam conditions exactly.
Test Day Strategy
For reading, skim the questions first, then read the passage. Never leave a question blank. Guessing costs you nothing.
